
Albino Fernandes Da Silva was born in Cerva, Ribeira de Pena, Trás-os-Montes, Portugal. In 1973, He emigrated to Toronto, where he began to grow and create a remarkable career in the world of culinary entrepreneurship, rooted in service, creativity and cultural pride, while making a lasting impact on the Portuguese heritage in the cultural fabric of Toronto. His professional journey began with an apprenticeship under his father in Lisbon, where he learned the art of pastry and bread making. His work experience stretched from civil engineering firms in Portugal to iconic restaurants across Canada and the United States. He is known for owning and operating many food establishments in Toronto, including Tiffany’s Pastry Shop, Eurosol, Chiado, Boemia, Circo, Adega, Oasis Salt Wine Bar and Taberna Naciona.
While living in the U.S, he left his mark internationally by working with consulting firms in operating celebrated restaurants, including Clyde Newton Inn, Hosterly des Bois and Sandstorm while also teaching at the Culinary Institute of America.
When he came back to Toronto, Albino built his media presence, which included over 100 cooking show episodes on CFMT, sharing Portuguese cuisine with a broader audience. He also received accolades, including the Medal of Honour from Portugal and repeated recognition from Gourmet Magazine, Bon Appétit, and Toronto Life for his top-rated restaurants.
Through his career, Albino has not only preserved Portuguese culinary traditions but also elevated them within Canada’s diverse cultural scene. He remains based in Toronto, where Chiado continues to be a beacon of excellence and heritage within his community.
