Comendador Antonio Belas

Comendador Antonio Belas was born in the town of Cheleiros, Mafra, Portugal, and in his teens, worked in his family’s Groceria. The Belas’ have deep roots in the food business and are responsible for introducing an array of Portuguese products into the Canadian market.

In 1979, Mr. Belas purchased the Ferma Company and has expanded it to become one of the largest food distribution companies in Canada. Mr. Belas founded the Real Canadian Portuguese Museum as a way to give back to the community.

The Portuguese government awarded Mr. Belas the Award of Merit.
